Improvement Noted

After a little slower morning, Joy felt better throughout the afternoon but things like showering and walking are still a little tasking. She can tolerate those activities with minimal oxygen (2 liters per minute) and is improving each day. We walked a lot this afternoon and she did magnificent.

We do not yet know the exact strain of pneumonia she has and we are hopeful that additional lab results will be available tomorrow. Discharge day is unknown and they continue several antibiotic IV's, magnesium IV's, Chemotherapy IV's, tube feeding and of course the normal bowls of meds. She continues with a productive cough, which is good.

The nineth floor roof top helipad is directly across from her window so our entertainment for the day is watching the helicopters land and take off. Free and exciting entertainment!

I thought mom sounded really good considering, when I spoke to her today. I asked about the rejection and she stated that they did not find any. Major good news on that front. Wow, I didn't realize y'all got a room with a view of the helipad. That beats the picnic area anyday. I hope she continues to make improvements and get out of " The Big D " and back "home" soon. Give her my love. Cathy

Hi guys,
Sounds like you're getting back on "track"! (love those NASCAR analogies) I'm sure Joy is itching to head home again. But with this ridiculously hot weather, maybe the hospital isn't such a bad place. Thanks to all for keeping us up to date. We're always looking forward to hearing the latest. Hope Joy continues to improve. Stay cool...
Love,
Steve & Trina

This sounds like good news. I'm sorry to hear that you have pneumonia, Joy, but this doesn't seem to be unusual for lung transplant recipients. Keep plugging away and you'll be out of there before you know it. How often do the helicopters land? Is it noisy for you? Jessica was here visiting this past weekend. She wanted to take Sammy back to NYC with her. She's doing well and trying to get a job with the NYC Teaching Fellows program where she'd teach intercity kids and get a teaching certificate. Ashley is working hard to get ready for Back to School night on August 14. A giant iguana visited her at the apartment pool yesterday so she wasn't too excited about that. David has a final exam in accounting Wed. and he'll be happy to be done with this tough course.
Take care!
