Surgery is complete, nausea issue addressed and Joy has been discharged so we are preparing for our return trip home tomorrow.
Intense back pain has been resolved for the moment and current back pain probably residual effects of the surgery itself. All the attending physicians have indicated she has an extremely high probability of reoccuring fractures despite any/all precautions.
Nausea issue improved slightly but doctors feel this will require a "long haul" type resolution because several factors are involved in the root cause. We will see how she responds to the added motility medicine over the next month until we return to Duke for follow-up in a month.
The doctors did a lot during her week's stay and she came out better than when she went in but still has plenty of opportunity for progress.

Hi Joy!
I may not be writing often but I am checking the site daily. I am pleased to know this visit to Duke seems to have been a good one. Take it easy on the way home and know that we are thinking of and praying for you. All our love to you and Wayne.
Ciao, bella!

Hi Guys!
When you read this I hope you have had a good trip home. So glad the docs were able to relieve most of the back pain. Praying for you as always!
Love,
Sharon
Hi Joy & Wayne,
Glad to hear you're making progress again. Sounds like those Duke doctors are on the ball. We're up in State College with Mom & Dad. Mom told us you called last night-- and is filling us in on all the details. Hope you're feeling even better soon. Also pleased that you're heading home so soon. All that time in hospitals must be a royal pain. Mom, Dad and gang send their best... At least you can go home and enjoy your new siding!!
Love to all,
Steve, Trina, et al.
Dear Joy and Wayne
By now you are back home and hopefully the return trip was more comfortable for Joy than the trip to Duke.
We are happy to hear of the progress the Dr's made in treating Joy's painful problems. Perhaps this is a break through visit and there will be more healing than set backs from now on.
We pray that this is the case.
Love
Kitty and Bill
