Home Sweet Home

Although Joy was discharged, pain continues and intensity better controlled but at the cost of increased nausea / discomfort.

She had two options: 1) Undergo another spine surgery NOW or 2) utilize the back brace and continue with pain management for a couple weeks to see if fracture heals by itself. She is giving number 2 a try.

September trip to Duke is in question. This appointment is critical but could be rescheduled for the following month but tremendous risk is involved should she not be able to go in October. The rejection / infection has to be closely monitored since it is possible her body will not display any apparent symptoms. Bronch and biopsy are the only way to diagnose.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Dear Joy and Wayne
Joy, it must feel great to be home. We are sorry that you have the pain from the vertibrae to deal with and hope that the back brace will give you good support while healing occurs.
Wayne, we are sure that you are happy to have Joy back home. Spending a big part of your day at the Hospital must be frustating because you can not do much to help Joy like you can at home. Thanks you again for keeping everyone informed of Joy's progress as well as set backs.
We will pray that the trip to Duke will happen in Sept.
Love
Kitty and Bill

Hi Guys,
Joy's getting to be a real pro at getting discharged from hospitals. Way to go Joy! Hope being home again helps you feel better. We're keeping our fingers crossed. Fred & Shirley & Dan just returned from Florida. Dan spent the last couple of weeks in Florida helping the folks out. He stayed with us last night before heading home to Jersey. We're told that Mom is feeling better after her recent surgery. Seems like the clan has been taking some lumps lately! We'll be heading up to SC this weekend for a BDay (Mom) & Anniversary celebration (MomandDad). We'll be keeping you in our thoughts.
Love to all,
Steve & Trina

Dear Joy and Wayne,
I'm glad to hear that you got to go home, Joy. I hope that you will be able to rest and that your fracture will heal so you don't need another surgery. I'm not happy to hear about the continuing pain, but hopefully it is mostly under control and manageable. But my prayer is that your spine heals and have little to no pain in the near future.
We had a birthday celebration for Mom at our house tonight. She is doing better than she was there for awhile. Thankfully, she got the o.k. to travel north just in time for Fay, the hurricane which turned out to be a tropical storm, to come to town. I think she would have liked a little more time to recover since she couldn't sit up and had to get out at every rest stop, but another lucky break was that Dan canceled his flight and drove them home. Tomorrow we're supposed to celebrate Mom and Dad's 55th anniversary by going out to the Nittany Lion Inn, the fanciest place in town, but Dad hasn't felt good since they've gotten back. I hope he is able to go out to celebrate their anniversary with Mom, Dan, Steve, Trina, Jan, David and me.
You are always in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Laraine
