To use a good southern phrase and we are in the south, "it just ain't fittin' " if we don't visit ER more than once or twice while we are here! After working most of the day yesterday (Thursday) trying to get Joy's feeding tube unclogged, we gave up and received the doctor's permission to use an alternate tube "one time only" to provide some evening nourishment with plans to visit ER by 7 AM today (Friday). The tube actually has a tube within a tube, one to the stomach (G)and the other to the intestines (J) which is the one that we normally use. The advice to arrive that early was perfect! There was no one in the waiting room when we arrived and got back to a room faster than getting to a hotel room. By the time we left almost 8 hours later, the waiting room was packed (easy 150+) and the nurses told me it was an exceptionally busy day with serious and numerous trauma patients. Four Life Flight patients as well.
So, after consulting with team doctors, they decided to perform surgery and remove the old tube and replace it with a new one and so far it is working. I wish I could say I was optimistic, but we will see. Joy tolerated the surgery and is recuperating at home. Due to this side trip, we both missed support group and her rehab today. It is so difficult to sustain any continuity in regards to rehab but hopefully, the tube issue is behind us. I think this may give them thought to accelerate the stomach surgery but, that is no miracle cure either. She will have to learn to eat all over again and for several, this has been difficult.
Unless we have more issues develop, the plan will be to rest up over the weekend and start all over with rehab on M-T-T-F with clinic on Wednesday.
And today, Nifong goes to jail, the lacrosse players file suit against the city of Durham for $30,000,000.00 and the city gets a new DA. Oh yah, Duke football will try to make it 1-21 against Virginia tomorrow. Not!

WOW...so sorry to read about the latest trip to the E.R. I certainly hope this will resolve the feeding issue though. I know you have had more problems with that dang tube more then anything else. Big day in Durham, that is for sure. Nifong's picture, courtesy of the county jail is worth it's weight in gold. Well we are now keeping an eye to see if "Gabrielle" will be paying us a visit in the next few day's. We could certainly use the rain. Hang in there and give mom my love.

Dear Joy and Wayne
We are so sorry that you had to go to the ER again. Maybe this time the Tube will co-operate until Joy is ready for the stomach wrap.
Joy it was a thrill to read your own words last Sunday. We know that you will continue to heal and improve and that soon you will be planning on coming back " Up North".
Wayne how can Duke have such great Basketball teams and such mediocre football teams? Another one of life's contradictions.
Please have a restfull week-end. We
will keep both of you in our prayers.
Love

Dear Joy and Wayne,
I finally figured out this blogger system. It said I had the wrong password, but I couldn't figure out how to change it without knowing what it was to begin with. I just found the link that let me do that.
Anyway, I was so excited to see that you posted your own entry, Joy! And you guys figured your way around the ER system by getting there before the rest of the crowd showed up. Thank heavens for little miracles. I remember that line, "It just ain't fittin'" from Gone With the Wind. I think the Black maid said those words to Scarlet when she wore her corset too tight. Anyway you two sure could use that line alot!
We are celebrating a 31-10 win by Penn State over Notre Dame tonight. It was quite a game if you were a Penn Stater. David and his buddies were on t.v. wearing Scottish kilts with their bodies painted white for the white-out. They were supporting Austin Scott (who happens to be African American) with their Scottish attire. He had a great game, but the announcers didn't get the connection.
I hope you are able to rest up the rest of the weekend as you always seem to have your work cut out for you during the week.
Take care of yourselves!
Hugs and kisses,
Laraine
Do you get any frequent flyer credits for all these trips to the ER? At least by now, you must know all the staff, so you can treat it like a visit with old friends! Glad to hear Joy is tolerating these latest issues-- who would expect any less? It could be worse... We could be Michigan fans! (or Notre Dame fans) ((gloat)) Hope you all get back on track with the therapy. Now, get out there and win one for the Gipper!
Love to all,
Steve & Trina
I haven't read all the blog and comments, but you sure have a most tremendous support and prayer group, Joy and Wayne. Add Carol and I to the number, as Tennessee prayers have a direct route. I didn't get to our 45th reunion but Elaine was kind to forward me this blog address. The strength and love of your family and friends shine like a beacon, Joy. Carol is good friends with Joyce Meyer (monthly partner lol), so we'll add you to her prayer list as well. I have often thought of you when we listen to Joyce. Hope ya'll (Tennessee inflection) have a better week than last week. Stay the course. Take care. (Bob & Carol Loghry)
